At Fluff in the Forest Dog Training, we are committed to providing compassionate dog training that meets your needs, and those of your dog and family. This involves collection and use of our clients’ (“your”) personal information.

This Privacy Policy applies in addition to the terms and conditions of our site and services.

The minimum age to use our site and services is 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect or use personal information from children under 13 years of age. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 years of age, the personal information will be deleted as soon as possible. We collect personal information via the contact form on our website, via email, social media, as well as any digital or printed intake forms which you may complete.

We may collect personal information such as:

home address and telephone number
marital and family status
payment information
information about medical conditions or disabilities which may relate to your training needs or accommodations
social media handles (optional)

We will also collect information about your dog, their health, their behaviour and learning history. Your dog’s information is not covered by BC’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA); however, we take the greatest care with their information too!

Use of personal information

We will only collect personal information that is necessary to fulfill the following purposes:

To provide you with dog training and related services, electronically or in person
To tailor our training to your individual needs, family or living situation
To communicate with you about general pet information, or to market our other services
To process payment for our services
To verify eligibility for discounts
To request feedback about our services
To connect with our clients on social media if they wish to do so

We will not use your personal information beyond the purposes we disclose in this Privacy Policy, or for a purpose reasonably related to those purposes.

Disclosure and access to personal information

We may disclose your personal information to members of our organization who reasonably need access to your personal information in order to fulfil the purposes laid out in this Privacy Policy. We may store your personal information digitally on third party platforms; all such platforms are password protected, and - wherever possible - we activate two-factor authentication.

We will not share or sell your personal information with other third parties, except in the following cases:

We have your explicit permission to do so (for example, to facilitate a referral to another pet professional, or to connect via social media)

If it is required for any legal proceeding
To prove or protect our legal rights

Your rights

How long we store personal information: We will retain your personal information for only as long as necessary to fulfill the identified purposes, or to fulfill our legal and business obligations. We are required to keep records of clients and training sessions for a period of three years from the date of each training session or consultation.

How we protect your personal information: We use browser encryption and firewalls as necessary. We will digitize and shred any personal information provided physically on paper. All personal information stored digitally will be protected by password and/or biometrics.

While we take all reasonable precautions to ensure that user data is secure and that users are protected, there always remains the risk of harm. The Internet as a whole can be insecure at times and therefore we are unable to guarantee the security of your personal information beyond what is reasonably practical.

How to access, modify or delete the data we collect: If you would like to know if we have collected your personal information, how we have used your personal information, if we have disclosed your personal information, or if you would like your personal information to be deleted or modified in any way, please contact us at kaeli@fluffintheforest.ca. Where withdrawing consent for the use or retention of your personal information would affect our ability to provide dog training services, we will advise you of this fact in writing.

How to opt out of marketing emails: In addition to the above, you can opt out of the use of your personal information for marketing emails by clicking “Unsubscribe” at the bottom of automated marketing emails, or replying to any personally generated emails with your request.

Modifications

This Privacy Policy may be amended from time to time in order to maintain compliance with the law and to reflect any changes to the data collection process. We recommend that you periodically review our Privacy Policy to ensure that you are notified of any updates. If necessary, we will notify you by email of changes to this Privacy Policy.
